And, if you're considering building quick web service based applications, then there was a concept of web mashups. Yahoo! Pipes was a popular tool. Microsoft had Popfly and Google had a Mashup Editor, but unfortunately they closed down. Pipes is still there!
Just a note: These are indeed wrappers, and at the back end, codes are generated which will require quite some effort. ;)
