You may face issue with ubuntu 14.04 on new machines. The reason may be that there are no suitable drivers. Following worked for me : machine: dell optiplex OS: Ununtu 14.04 Upating kernel using sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-wily Then reboot.
