मनातली शाळा पुन्हा एकदा लावा

प्रत्येकाच्या मनात खरच एक गोड शाळा लागलेली असते. फक्त इमारतच नव्हे तर तिथली मित्र, मनातल्या मनात मानलेल्या 'मैत्रिणी', आवडते शिक्षक, शिक्षिका वगैरे वगैरे ने आपली ही मनातली शाळा गच्च भरलेली असते. हाच संदेश शाळा हा चित्रपट देऊन जातो. अगदी प्रत्येक आठवण जागी करतो. चित्रपटाने सगळे बारकावे पकडले आहेत. त्यातली त्यात चिमुकल्यांची प्रेम कहाणी जिचा खरच खऱ्या आयुष्यात (म्हणजे वयाने मोठ्या झालेल्यांच्या भाषेत) फार काही सिग्नीफिकंस नसतो, ती तर इतकी छान चीत्रतीत केलेली आहेत की ज्यांना कधी शाळेतल्या चिमुकल्या प्रेमाची जाणीव झालेली नसेल त्यांना ही जाणवेल की अरे आपण तर त्या मनातल्या 'शिरोडकर' च्या प्रेमात होतो. मनातली शिरोडकर. व्वा. तुम्हाला त्या सगळ्या आठवणी जाग्या करायच्या असतील तर नक्की पहा आणि मनातली शाळा पुन्हा एकदा लावा.

गर्दी असते बाजूला तेंव्हा ती एकमेकांची कुणीच नसतात. पण भेटला एकदा एकांत की रमलेले जीव मग या जगाचे ही कुणीच नसतात.

We, specifically the educated ones, have become a society where we need all the fruits of free market economy and global open market. But we want government to enforce heavy regulations on the lower economic classes in this nation like farmers and other labor class population. We want the salary hikes every time the petrol prices go up and we still want the food prices to stay down. Agreed, the growing food prices doesn't always benefit the farmers directly, but it isn't that plain reason to not accept the price rise.

I have observed some of economic dailies in this nation criticizing government and making jokes of policies when some package or subsidiaries are announced for the agriculture. These are the same dailies which appreciates the government reducing taxes on corporations and help the dying corporations (for their own mistakes). It's the worst form of the capitalism. Or in known words it's the old sucking Jamindari capitalism where media, power and policies are always in favor of the rich. I strongly support the free market economies and yes strong regulations by government too, but both things have to practiced in fair way. Let farmers decide their own prices and let global food giants come to this nation. People will buy from who sells it cheaper.

Capitalims and Communism for India

Yesterday a very good phrase occurred to my mind "Fairy Tales of Capitalism and Horror Storied from Communism". In relation to that....

Post 91 changes have transformed the vision of policy makers and executors. We as a nation are looking at prosperity and growth from another perspective and I, some times doubt about that being an imported vision. I am not content with the 'kind' of growth that is happening and kind of people those leading it. But I was even not content with pre 91 days and the growth then.

So I have been asking myself what do I want and what is that I think is the best for this nation. Obviously it is not the communism (-as it is) as (personally I think) the fundamental notion of individuals being more productive and forward looking than the collectives (as opposed to individual) is correct and realistic. So is it Capitalism? Surely another 'no' here too. Individuals are important and should be awarded differently but can not be treated and favored for too long, which I think capitalism does a lot.

We being a nation divided into different social structures; wealth and power being centered to very few, can't afford to adopt capitalism. Yes mixed economy is answer, but then the ratio of capitalists and communist approaches is a factor to debate on.

Many say we are a mixed economy but I still think we have been moving to capitalism slowly. The poors being not able to visualize the move and not able to raise their voice are quite. The only hope is new world capitalists being not the believers of 'suck it all greed is good capitalism' and that they believe in enterprises for the mankind. That can happen only when those lower strata of this society understand this new world and the new capitalism for mankind as in fairy tales and some what similar to what communism expects from the societies.

You may face problems while restarting the apache and the one I faced "No apache MPM package installed" . So install that using synaptic or apt-get. And again try restarting that apache2. It will work.

Just wanted to raise a concern do we need to revisit something? Our democratic process? Governance? Ways in which our system works ? If we think the current system has no way to involve people in the best possible way. Why not try to have a system/ways Where People are heard, Even those who don't have a voice!

And if the ways already exist (and are efficient still in fast changing Indian society and world), what are those?

These are just concerns, which I have in mind looking at the chaos (or really a revolution? I am not able to figure out.) outside.

I have utter respect for constitution and parliamentary democracy, and personally I think if something 'important', important in the sense that that will decide future of the nation has to be, has to be appreciated by the parliament and obviously by the people of nation also!

Do we have system to practice/track that? If yes, is it efficient? If not, why not invest our some time in making that and making that efficient.

I might be wrong, absolutely wrong, unaware of the existence of such system and in that case I would like to know about it, please help me.

The below speech and thoughts by Babasaheb and happenings in nation now made me think this way.

You will realize his vision for democracy and importance of system and constitution, his vision for social freedom (which is yet to be realized completely ). He has predicted about what can happen to nation if we sideline/neglect/make lesser important/disrespect the parliament and what can happen if the people in power happen to be bad/incompetent/corrupt. If I am not wrong, both the things are happening now. Will his prediction be true? just worried. My concerns are not about changing the constitution, it's quite strong and matured and powerful if used by right hands to empower people and nation, but are about making yet another round of a system which protects constitution and constitutional system from going to the bad hands - protecting self interests, protecting communal interest using the power in hands to get more power and exploit those with lesser or no voice and stopping nation from being socially free in true sense.

Nation awakened to the rights is very good, but it should not go directly on roads just after waking up, an accident may happen. It must, first, get refreshed with duties by recalling them and then the march will surely lead to growth and light.

As much defence as could be offered to the Constitution has been offered by my friends Sir Alladi Krishnaswami Ayyar and Mr T T Krishnamachari, I shall not therefore enter into the merits of the Constitution. Because I feel, however good a Constitution may be, it is sure to turn out bad because those who are called to work it, happen to be a bad lot. However bad a Constitution may be, it may turn out to be good if those who are called to work it, happen to be a good lot. The working of a Constitution does not depend wholly upon the nature of the Constitution. The Constitution can provide only the organs of State such as the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary. The factors on which the working of those organs of the State depend are the people and the political parties they will set up as their instruments to carry out their wishes and their politics. Who can say how the people of India and their parties will behave? Will they uphold constitutional methods of achieving their purposes or will they prefer revolutionary methods of achieving them? If they adopt the revolutionary methods, however good the Constitution may be, it requires no prophet to say that it will fail. It is, therefore, futile to pass any judgement upon the Constitution without reference to the part which the people and their parties are likely to play.

The condemnation of the Constitution largely comes from two quarters, the Communist Party and the Socialist Party. Why do they condemn the Constitution? Is it because it is really a bad Constitution? I venture to say ‘no’. The Communist Party want a Constitution based upon the principle of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. They condemn the Constitution because it is based upon parliamentary democracy. The Socialists want two things. The first thing they want is that if they come in power, the Constitution must give them the freedom to nationalise or socialise all private property without payment of compensation. The second thing that the Socialists want is that the Fundamental Rights mentioned in the Constitution must be absolute and without any limitations so that if their Party fails to come into power, they would have the unfettered freedom not merely to criticise, but also to overthrow the State.

No right to bind succeeding generations
These are the main grounds on which the Constitution is being condemned. I do not say that the principle of parliamentary democracy is the only ideal form of political democracy. I do not say that the principle of no acquisition of private property without compensation is so sacrosanct that there can be no departure from it. I do not say that Fundamental Rights can never be absolute and the limitations set upon them can never be lifted. What I do say is that the principles embodied in the Constitution are the views of the present generation or if you think this to be an over-statement, I say they are the views of the members of the Constituent Assembly. Why blame the Drafting Committee for embodying them in the Constitution? I say why blame even the Members of the Constituent Assembly? Jefferson, the great American statesman who played so great a part in the making of the American constitution, has expressed some very weighty views which makers of Constitution, can never afford to ignore. In one place he has said:

“We may consider each generation as a distinct nation, with a right, by the will of the majority, to bind themselves, but none to bind the succeeding generation, more than the inhabitants of another country.”

In another place, he has said:

“The idea that institutions established for the use of the nation cannot be touched or modified, even to make them answer their end, because of rights gratuitously supposed in those employed to manage them in the trust for the public, may perhaps be a salutary provision against the abuses of a monarch, but is most absurd against the nation itself. Yet our lawyers and priests generally inculcate this doctrine, and suppose that preceding generations held the earth more freely than we do; had a right to impose laws on us, unalterable by ourselves, and that we, in the like manner, can make laws and impose burdens on future generations, which they will have no right to alter; in fine, that the earth belongs to the dead and not the living;”

I admit that what Jefferson has said is not merely true, but is absolutely true. There can be no question about it. Had the Constituent Assembly departed from this principle laid down by Jefferson it would certainly be liable to blame, even to condemnation. But I ask, has it? Quite the contrary. One has only to examine the provision relating to the amendment of the Constitution…I challenge any of the critics of the Constitution to prove that any Constituent Assembly anywhere in the world has, in the circumstances in which this country finds itself, provided such a facile procedure for the amendment of the Constitution. If those who are dissatisfied with the Constitution have only to obtain a 2/3 majority and if they cannot obtain even a two-thirds majority in the parliament elected on adult franchise in their favour, their dissatisfaction with the Constitution cannot be deemed to be shared by the general public.

The danger of divisive politics
[But] my mind is so full of the future of our country that I feel I ought to take this occasion to give expression to some of my reflections thereon. On 26^th January 1950, India will be an independent country. What would happen to her independence? Will she maintain her independence or will she lose it again? This is the first thought that comes to my mind. It is not that India was never an independent country. The point is that she once lost the independence she had. Will she lose it a second time? It is this thought which makes me most anxious for the future. What perturbs me greatly is the fact that not only India has once before lost her independence, but she lost it by the infidelity and treachery of some of her own people. In the invasion of Sind by Mahommed-Bin-Kasim, the military commanders of King Dahar accepted bribes from the agents of Mahommed-Bin-Kasim and refused to fight on the side of their king. It was Jaichand who invited Mahommed Ghori to invade India and fight against Prithvi Raj and promised him the help of himself and the Solanki kings. When Shivaji was fighting for the liberation of Hindus, the other Maratha noblemen and the Rajput kings were fighting the battle on the side of Mughul Emperors. When the British were trying to destroy the Sikh Rulers, Gulab Singh, their principal commander sat silent and did not help to save the Sikh Kingdom. In 1857, when a large part of India had declared a war of independence against the British, the Sikhs stood and watched the event as silent spectators.

Will history repeat itself? It is this thought which fills me with anxiety. This anxiety is deepened by the realisation of the fact that in addition to our old enemies in the form of castes and creeds we are going to have many political parties with diverse and opposing political creeds. Will Indians place the country above their creed or will they place creed above country? I do not know. But this much is certain that if the parties place creed above country, our independence will be put in jeopardy a second time and probably be lost for ever. This eventuality we must all resolutely guard against. We must be determined to defend our independence with the last drop of our blood.

The importance of constitutional methods
On the 26^th of January 1950, India would be a democratic country in the sense that India from that day would have a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The same thought comes to my mind. What would happen to her democratic Constitution? Will she be able to maintain it or will she lose it again. This is the second thought that comes to my mind and makes me as anxious as the first.

It is not that India did not know what is democracy. There was a time when India was studded with republics, and even where there were monarchies, they were either elected or limited. They were never absolute. It is not that India did not know Parliaments or parliamentary procedure. A study of the Buddhist Bhikshu Sanghas discloses that not only there were Parliaments—for the Sanghas were nothing but Parliaments—but the Sanghas knew and observed all the rules of parliamentary procedure known to modern times…Although these rules of parliamentary procedure were applied by the Buddha to the meetings of the Sanghas, he must have borrowed them from the rules of the political assemblies functioning in the country in his time.

This democratic system India lost. Will she lose it a second time? I do not know. But it is quite possible in a country like India—where democracy from its long disuse must be regarded as something quite new—there is danger of democracy giving place to dictatorship. It is quite possible for this new born democracy to retain its form but give place to dictatorship in fact. If there is a landslide, the danger of the second possibility becoming actuality is much greater.

If we wish to maintain democracy not merely in form, but also in fact, what must we do? The first thing in my judgement we must do is to hold fast to constitutional methods of achieving our social and economic objectives. It means we must abandon the bloody methods of revolution. It means that we must abandon the method of civil disobedience, non-cooperation and satyagraha. When there was no way left for constitutional methods for achieving economic and social objectives, there was a great deal of justification for unconstitutional methods. But where constitutional methods are open, there can be no justification for these unconstitutional methods. These methods are nothing but the Grammar of Anarchy and the sooner they are abandoned, the better for us.

The politics of pedestals
The second thing we must do is to observe the caution which John Stuart Mill has given to all who are interested in the maintenance of democracy, namely, not “to lay their liberties at the feet of even a great man, or to trust him with power which enable him to subvert their institutions.” There is nothing wrong in being grateful to great men who have rendered life-long services to the country. But there are limits to gratefulness. As has been well said by the Irish Patriot Daniel O’Connel, no man can be grateful at the cost of his honour, no woman can be grateful at the cost of her chastity and no nation can be grateful at the cost of its liberty. This caution is far more necessary in the case of India than in the case of any other country. For in India, Bhakti or what may be called the path of devotion or hero-worship, plays a part in its politics unequalled in magnitude by the part it plays in the politics of any other country in the world. Bhakti in religion may be a road to the salvation of the soul. But in politics, Bhakti or hero-worship is a sure road to degradation and to eventual dictatorship.

Social democracy
The third thing we must do is not to be content with mere political democracy. We must make our political democracy a social democracy as well. Political democracy cannot last unless there lies at the base of it social democracy. What does social democracy mean? It means a way of life which recognises liberty, equality and fraternity as the principles of life. These principles of liberty, equality and fraternity are not to be treated as separate items in a trinity. They form a union of trinity in the sense that to divorce one from the other is to defeat the very purpose of democracy. Liberty cannot be divorced from equality, equality cannot be divorced from liberty. Nor can liberty and equality be divorced from fraternity. Without equality, liberty would produce the supremacy of the few over the many. Equality without liberty would kill individual initiative. Without fraternity, liberty would produce the supremacy of the few over the many. Equality without liberty would kill individual initiative. Without fraternity, liberty and equality could not become a natural course of things. It would require a constable to enforce them.

We must begin by acknowledging the fact that there is complete absence of two things in Indian society. One of these is equality. On the social plane, we have in India a society based on the principle of graded inequality which we have a society in which there are some who have immense wealth as against many who live in abject poverty. On the 26^th of January 1950, we are going to enter into a life of contradictions. In politics we will have equality and in social and economic life we will have inequality. In politics we will be recognising the principle of one man one vote and one vote one value. In our social and economic life, we shall, by reason of our social and economic structure, continue to deny the principle of one man one value. How long shall we continue to live this life of contradictions? How long shall we continue to deny equality in our social and economic life? If we continue to deny it for long, we will do so only by putting our political democracy in peril. We must remove this contradiction at the earliest possible moment or else those who suffer from inequality will blow up the structure of political democracy which this Assembly has to laboriously built up.

The second thing we are wanting in is recognition of the principle of fraternity. What does fraternity mean? Fraternity means a sense of common brotherhood of all Indians-if Indians being one people. It is the principle which gives unity and solidarity to social life. It is a difficult thing to achieve…

To build a nation
I remember the days when politically-minded Indians, resented the expression “the people of India”. They preferred the expression “the Indian nation.” I am of opinion that in believing that we are a nation, we are cherishing a great delusion. How can people divided into several thousands of castes be a nation? The sooner we realise that we are not as yet a nation in the social and psychological sense of the world, the better for us. For then only we shall realise the necessity of becoming a nation and seriously think of ways and means of realising the goal. The realisation of this goal is going to be very difficult…The castes are anti-national. In the first place because they bring about separation in social life. They are anti-national also because they generate jealousy and antipathy between caste and caste. But we must overcome all these difficulties if we wish to become a nation in reality. For fraternity can be a fact only when there is a nation. Without fraternity, equality and liberty will be no deeper than coats of paint.

These are my reflections about the tasks that lie ahead of us. They may not be very pleasant to some. But there can be no gainsaying that political power in this country has too long been the monopoly of a few and the many are only beasts of burden, but also beasts of prey. This monopoly has not merely deprived them of their chance of betterment, it has sapped them of what may be called the significance of life. These down-trodden classes are tired of being governed. They are impatient to govern themselves. This urge for self-realisation in the down-trodden classes must not be allowed to devolve into a class struggle or class war. It would lead to a division of the House. That would indeed be a day of disaster. For, as has been well said by Abraham Lincoln, a House divided against itself cannot stand very long. Therefore the sooner room is made for the realisation of their aspiration, the better for the few, the better for the country, the better for the maintenance for its independence and the better for the continuance of its democratic structure. This can only be done by the establishment of equality and fraternity in all spheres of life. That is why I have laid so much stresses on them.

I do not wish to weary the House any further. Independence is no doubt a matter of joy. But let us not forget that this independence has thrown on us great responsibilities. By independence, we have lost the excuse of blaming the British for anything going wrong. If hereafter things go wrong, we will have nobody to blame except ourselves. There is great danger of things going wrong. Times are fast changing. People including our own are being moved by new ideologies. They are getting tired of Government by the people. They are prepared to have Governments for the people and are indifferent whether it is Government of the people and by the people. If we wish to preserve the Constitution in which we have sought to enshrine the principle of Government of the people, for the people and by the people, let us resolve not to be tardy in the recognition of the evils that lie across our path and which induce people to prefer Government for the people to Government by the people, nor to be weak in our initiative to remove them. That is the only way to serve the country. I know of no better.?

They can't go on looting my nation

I was some days before not so positive about Jan Lokpal movement. Because personally I didn't like the way things were happening and democracy was made to act. I didn't like the candle lightening just for craze (and not vote at all!) and someone asking govt. to do what he says. Also I didn't like media and people looking at this issue as the only issue of national interest and everything else is good and okay. I didn't like the media staying calm on other issues like farmers suicides, poverty and many others and just en-cashing this TRP-full drama. But I now have understood why they needed to do it this way. I still don't like some of the above stated issues, but yes I would love to see A STRONG lokpal/Janlokpal bill coming into existence to eradicate the corruption and also to show every political party that they can't go on looting my nation and we still exist.
Also I would like to request my friends who are concerned about change in Constitution. Nor this or any other government has followed what Dr. Ambedkar had said. So let's not worry about that. Update: A good news at the Bottom

There are many free of cost version of books on Amazon provided as Kindle Edition like this one. But those who don't have Amazon kindle device were not able to read those free books or sample chapters. But now it's possible with an application called Kindle App that Amazon provides for installation on the personal computers and mobile devices.

But the OS that are supported by this app are not open source. To install it on Ubuntu you need WINE. Steps to install wine and Kindle app on Ubuntu are well described here:

Gmail Storage and Happy friendship day

Gmail provides us 7+ GB space for the messages. When I first found out that my Gmail free space quota was being exceeded, I went for some Gsearch and found that the Google storage for a user gets shared across Gmail, Picasa and Docs and I thought this Gstorage is nothing but the same 7+ GB space and deleted some pics from my Picasa which were part of my blog on blogspot (pics uploded to blog gets stored in picasa). But I was wrong. Google provides 7 GB only for the messages and attachments. And then the additional space for other services.

In Google's words:

Free storage space is specific to each product. Free storage from one product cannot be used by or transferred to another product.

Gmail provides 7+ GB (and counting) for Gmail messages.
Docs provides 1 GB for your uploaded files (documents created in Google Docs and converted files don't count towards your storage, but do have some size limitations).
Picasa Web provides 1 GB for photos and videos. Files under certain sizes don't count towards this limit.
Google+ provides unlimited storage for photos, which are automatically resized to 2048 pixels. Videos up to 15 minutes in length are also free.

Some most useful ways to delete the messages which consume the extra space: but be sure to recheck before deleting such messages -

To find messages that are larger in size due to attachments, try using advanced search operators such as has:attachment or filename:mov or you always know who are the culprit best friends sending 'those' pictures and clips, find "from:them" and delete. Hope you don't cry when you loose that much of the entertaining and emotional content from such good friends, and if it's that important download it and be sure to forward it to me if it's 'very' interesting ;).

They said let's increment your salaries 10 fold

They told us it's gonna change the India. We believed in them. They said let's urbanize everything. We thought they are talking about infrastructure. They said let's increment your salaries 10 fold. We thought it's gonna make us very rich. Later they said you will need to leave your homes and come to cities as we can't urbanize so fast being busy with current cities. We believed them and moved in. Seeing us move our neighbors moved. Seeing everyone moving our labours moved. And nearly a lot of people moved in cities to find out heavy-cost-living not affordable with the 10 fold salaries. Tiny little spaces to hide. Overloaded transport system. Rising costs caused because of our own salaries and the derived reasons. No infrastructure which they promised and were busy with. We found ourselves fighting for daily living and poorer than before. We thought of going back and found we have imbalanced the complete equilibrium. And we are told to prepare PPTs, audit someones calculations. Some do better job of automating their process which anyway in turn are consumed by us only and many of which we never needed. We came believed in them and participated with enthusiasm, but now we are forced to be here, do what they tell. They live lavish life and we serve them pizzas.

About Workshop

Many softwares have been developed for adopting technology in education for resource availability, sharing, and access to them even after school/college hours. There have also been developments aimed to ease other educational activities like course enrollment, conduct of examination from setting question papers to correcting answers and displaying results. Such softwares are available in the market in both forms proprietary and open source.

Unlike the proprietary softwares, Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) alternatives are free of cost, source code is available with the software, and the institution has freedom to modify the source code to customize the software as per requirement. For modification and maintenance the institution has full freedom to develop the required skills in-house with the help of faculties and system admin staff or they can choose to hire external help.

However, one of the problems is there are many FOSS tools available and a novice institution/teacher/software development organization has to take lot of efforts to short-list/choose a software for adoption. They will have to spend days looking for different softwares, their reviews, comparisons, etc. If such problems are reduced for the ease of FOSS adoption then the institutions/teachers can reap the above benefits of FOSS much more seamlessly.

The workshop intents to promote technology and FOSS adoption in educational institutions. Various FOSS tools in education will be demonstrated in the workshop. The participants will also get to experience the work of C-DAC Mumbai in promoting technology/FOSS in education. The workshop will provide an opportunity to interact with participants from different organizations and industry practitioners. The workshop will involve keynote and invited lectures by distinguished researchers and/or professionals.

Understand the benefits and role of technology in education.
Understand role of repositories (content, softwares) in technology adoption in education.
Get exposure to various softwares, repostories for education.
Understand applications of AI techniques like Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval in educational softwares.

It's not just by chance that most of the successful people in this world were successful at nearly everything they did in their life after being successful for first time.

It's because they had adopted the habit of volunteering and making things happen, taking initiative and working on them to meet it's targets. So in future though they failed they got some experience and that helped in being successful in their next missions.

So waiting for success to come and then showing your metal is task of the lazies. It's not many times the domain that matters for success, it's the habit and way of doing things. It's in one way a general architecture which you can apply to any domain and be successful. But the sad news is that the architecture is not known to everybody, it's not written anywhere and people can't express it, they only can show it through their actions and deeds. And also it can't be learned by just watching people do it, it can be learned only by doing it as in learning swimming and bicycle.

So waiting for some miracle to happen and make you capable enough to impart this skill/habit of becoming successful is easiest stupid thing to do. So better go and do it.

खूप पावसाळे गेले. पण अगदी अलीकडे पर्यंत त्याला पाऊस कधीच आवडलेला नव्हता. पाऊस म्हंटल की त्याला भीती वाटायची, नसती कट कट वाटायची. भिजणे तर त्याला कधीच नको वाटायचे, उगाच सर्दी ला आमंत्रण. पण मागच्या पवसाळ्यात ढग असे आले आणि पाऊस इतका पडला की तो पावसाच्या प्रेमातच पडला. पाऊस आधीही पडायचा, कदाचित असाच, इतकाच किंवा जास्त ही. पण या वेळेस मात्र पाऊस एकटा आला नाही, त्याच्या आयुष्यात सोबत घेऊन आला तिच्या केसांचा ओला सुगंध. ती अशीच त्याला भेटली, अगदी अचानक आलेल्या मुंबईतल्या पावसासारखी, चिंब भिजलेली. त्याला ती आवडली आणि म्हणून पाऊस ही. ती त्याला पुन्हा भेटली, न ठरवून, अशीच पुन्हा एकदा अचानक पावसाराखीच. ते बोलले, थांबले, विसावले. ती समोर आली तेंव्हा पाऊस नव्हताच, ती अजून थोडी जवळ आली तेंव्हा ही पाऊस नव्हता. तो तिच्याकडे सारखा पहातच होता, पण नजर चोरून. आयुष्यात पहिल्यांदा त्याने पावसाकडे येण्याची विनवणी केली. आशेच्या नजरेने त्याने ढगांकडे पाहिले. ढग होते, पण अजून पाऊस मात्र नव्हता. तरी ही आजूबाजूंच्या झाडात, डोंगरात, फुलात आणि पाखरात ओलावा होताच. त्याच्या विनवनीने अखेर तो आला. रिम-झिम, रिम-झिम. दोघेही एका छोट्या झुडपाखाली उभी. एकचजण मावेल इतकच छोट झुडूप. ती अजून थोडी आडोश्याला सरकली, भिजू नये म्हणून. हा मात्र भिजत तसाच उभा, तिच्या ओल्या सौंदर्याकडे पाहत. तो ओला होत होता, भिजत होता. तिला काळजी वाटली. धाडस करूनच म्हणाली, अलीकडे ये भिजतोयेस तू. पावसाने भिजलेला तो, तीच्या शब्दांनी खऱ्या अर्थाने ओला चिंब झाला. आज पहिल्यांदा चिंब भिजण्यात इतका आनंद असतो हे त्याला उमजलं. तिच ऐकून हा थोडा पुढे झाला. आता मात्र त्याला पाहून ती खूप लाजली, मनातल्या मनात पुटपुटली 'भित्रा कुठला'. तिच्या जवळ गेलेला तो थरथरत होता, तिच्या अंगाला स्पर्श होऊ नये म्हणून अंग चोरून उभा. तो तसा अंगाचोरून उभा राहिलेला पाहून तिनेच पुन्हा खूप खूप धाडस केलं, त्याच्या हाताला घट्ट पकडल आणि काही तरी पुटपुटली. त्याने ते ऐकल. तो ही काही तरी पुटपुटला. आता मात्र पाऊस धो धो बरसत होता. तो तसाच बरसत राहिला.

It's that time of year again, and many a manager's inbox has become flooded with the résumés of (very) soon-to-becollege graduates. And while we most hiring managers are well-versed in best practices for recruiting Millennials, it's amazing to us — as somewhat recent graduates ourselves — how many firms still make the same mistakes when hiring "the best" of Gen Y.

Take this example from our experience of one old-schoolhiring process, in which an IT firm disheartened several qualified candidates with an overly formal and invasive first-round interview. After a three-hour initial meeting, the firm had mentally drained the young candidates with surprise skill assessment tests and a last-minute decision to have them re-screened by multiple executives. To make matters worse, the candidates were confined to just a couple of rooms — and the company failed to give any insight, spoken or demonstrated, into the office environment. The group left exhausted, without any idea of the company's culture or values. One candidate, believing two hours worth of quarters would suffice for parking, returned from the interview to find a parking ticket on her windshield.

As proprietors of a college-focused recruiting firm since 2003, we've seen examples like this again and again. Outdated interview practices turn off would-be Millennial employees too early in the recruitment process. More than anything, recent college grads are looking to see how they will fit into your company's culture. Communicating culture informally — giving office tours as part of the interview, engaging and forming relationships with prospects while they are underclassmen, and showcasing flexibility — are important techniques to implement. Ultimately, your recruitment approach must evolve from "expect a follow-up if you're qualified," to "let us show you what we are all about."

This means that to reach top-performing Gen Ys, don't behave like the hiring managers we've seen who make these common mistakes:

They evaluate for past experience rather than potential and trainability. College students don't have a wealth of resume experience, so it is crucial to look at where they are headed as opposed to where they have been. When talking with students, keep your eyes open for those that are passionate, fit culturally with your company, and have a deep knowledge of their field.

They only offer a highly-structured internship program. Shadowing experiences, informational interviews, and informal professional development classes are highly effective entry-level recruitment methods. Contact professors and student organizations directly in order to set up speaking and presentation opportunities in the classroom and on campus. By avoiding the cumbersome interview and evaluation processes associated with structured internships, these tools are far cheaper, less resource intensive, and more conducive to building relationships.

They don't highlight, or even offer, flexible work arrangements. Millennials tend to care more about social and flexible work environments than high salaries. Entice them with perks that matter to them, like extra vacation time, telework options, and flexible scheduling.

The interview process is rigid, even when the company is informal. Before you offer the job, keep in mind that a good interview should communicate company culture and benefits to the interviewee just as much as it qualifies the candidate. This can be as simple as showing the candidate around the office or introducing her to some potential coworkers. If your company has a youthful, tech-minded, or innovative vibe, try to convey that (but don't fake it).

To remain competitive in this growing job market, you must tailor your selection process to the next generation as they graduate. By avoiding these mistakes, managers will not only hire the highest potentials from the Millennial crop, but also start to understand how to effectively manage them once they enter the workplace.

Peter Thiel founder PayPal and now a Venture Capitalist puts his thought on the education system. Looks his thoughts are biased to his experiences, but this view towards education is not completely wrong when the education system doesn't produce the quality resources.
The situation in the India is similar and may be the bauble will burst one day. Need to be careful.

Education is a bubble in a classic sense. To call something a bubble, it must be overpriced and there must be an intense belief in it. Housing was a classic bubble, as were tech stocks in the ’90s, because they were both very overvalued, but there was an incredibly widespread belief that almost could not be questioned — you had to own a house in 2005, and you had to be in an equity-market index fund in 1999.

Probably the only candidate left for a bubble — at least in the developed world (maybe emerging markets are a bubble) — is education. It’s basically extremely overpriced. People are not getting their money’s worth, objectively, when you do the math. And at the same time it is something that is incredibly intensively believed; there’s this sort of psycho-social component to people taking on these enormous debts when they go to college simply because that’s what everybody’s doing.

It is, to my mind, in some ways worse than the housing bubble. There are a few things that make it worse. One is that when people make a mistake in taking on an education loan, they’re legally much more difficult to get out of than housing loans. With housing, typically they’re non-recourse — you can just walk out of the house. With education, they’re recourse, and they typically survive bankruptcy. If you borrowed money and went to a college where the education didn’t create any value, that is potentially a really big mistake.

There have been a lot of critiques of the finance industry’s having possibly foisted subprime mortgages on unknowing buyers, and a lot of those kinds of arguments are even more powerful when used against college administrators who are probably in some ways engaged in equally misleading advertising. Like housing was, college is advertised as an investment for the future. But in most cases it’s really just consumption, where college is just a four-year party, in the same way that buying a large house with a really big swimming pool, etc., is probably not an investment decision but a consumption decision. It was something about combining the investment decision and the consumption decision that made the housing thing so tricky to get a handle on — and I think that’s also true of the college bubble.

You know, we’ve looked at the math on this, and I estimate that 70 to 80 percent of the colleges in the U.S. are not generating a positive return on investment. Even at the top universities, it may be positive in some sense — but the counterfactual question is, how well would their students have done had they not gone to college? Are they really just selecting for talented people who would have done well anyway? Or are you actually educating them? That’s the kind of question that isn’t analyzed very carefully. My suspicion is that they’re just good at identifying talented people rather than adding value. So there are a lot of things about it that are very strange.
The Great Recession of 2008 to the present is helping to bring the education bubble to a head. When parents have invested enormous amounts of money in their kids’ education, to find their kids coming back to live with them — well, that was not what they bargained for. So the crazy bubble in education is at a point where it is very close to unraveling.

Double digit million dollars for just born startup, what does it mean?

Million dollars for a just born startup like color.com means a lot. The discussion about color.com - why the fcuk they funded this much? what the hell is happening? Have the people at Sequoia gone mad? and some interesting like why the fcuk domain name color.com is so expensive? and all such intense responses to Color's $41 million funding by Sequoia Capital and other VC firms/banks are entertaining the readers on Twitter and TechCrunch.

But behind everyone's sentiments there are some big concerns. Everyone other than Sequoia and Color is afraid of this much of money going into this tiny little startup. Some are afraid of losing their good talent, because with this much of money in bank Color can hire some of the best brains in the industry at such a early stage only. Some are afraid of an incoming trend of putting big money into the first phase only. Though it's individuals choice, you can't ignore the trend. Those who are afraid of these things, caution everyone else that bubble two is coming, might be a hidden agenda to sell web 3.0 technologies to VCs ;) . Because they say it's the web 2.0 companies which survived the .com bubble 1 and this time it might be web 3.0 companies.

These are just questions and concerns, no one knows the reality, ~~I doubt even the people at Sequoia Capital. Because no one is coming with convincing reason.[~~On update] Those who consider this deal is a okay deal, say people in digital tech industry are not comfortable with big money.

Whatever it be, but one thing is for sure we will see lot of photo sharing applications and social applications getting at least some sort funding, because now every one knows there is something big in this "photo" thing, after all a picture is worth thousand words. But still for sure search for next big thing doesn't stop here.

And finally to the question---
Double digit million dollars for just born startup, what does it mean?
>Actually it doesn't mean anything now; the actual meaning will be revealed after scale of success or failure of the Color.com. Till then it's just another funding, don't get away with it or don't get disturbed with it, focus on what you have been focusing on.

An Update:
After reading this interview of Color Founder Bill Nguyen, I am more clear on fact that $41 million funding is not any special event, they are worth more than this if they deliver what they say. Some of the ideas like relations fading away on digital world, a lot of data mining and other staff/people of the color are things worth more than this. Because if this succeeds and takes a good shape we will see a big change in social network space.
And in all I am now sure, it's time for web 3.0 or what is also called Semantic Web.

Found about this novel-Turing, on Turing. It's a novel about computing and gives many insights to how the things happened in the Computing. The novel is written by Christos H. Papadimitriou. He is also speaking at 20th international WWW conference, Hyderabad.
About this novel :

Observing the world patterns

When it comes to making conclusion about something based on the observations from world we must be cautious. Because we may end up doing that in hurry and making it fully dependent on and a function of what 'we- as an individuals and organization' know about the world or that specific world.
So critical thinking plays a very important role here. We should ask ourselves if observations and patterns like 'this' mean X to me, do they mean the same to others or something else? Such a measurement is more accurate and is not biased/restricted to the view. So this is where the 'opinions' and 'fact' differ from each other. The opinions take in account only some people's world knowledge where as fact are supported by many people and represent what is there and what is not and what it should be then.
So being careful on such biases is very important, because decisions with such biased support system are not scalable or are not sustainable. So to exist and grow follow the facts.
Yes there are places where we may contradict but, that depends on the need of that hour.

If you are applying for the CST 2011, here are some guidelines to help you:

First Visit the page: cst.cdacmumbai.in
Read all the important dates and other required information.

If you want to apply for the JOB at cdac Mumbai, you have to appear for the G level and need to fill the 'A1 form'.

The form can be found at http://siddhant.cdacmumbai.in:6080/cstfinal/registrationA1.do link.

Before you start filling the form you should have drawn the DD already (in case you are paying by this way), as you need the DD details to fill in the form.

Once you complete filling the form, you will be taken to a confirmation page where you recheck the information filled by you and confirm.
After that you get a copy of the form, print it and mail it along with the DD to the given address.

Please follow the following instructions while mailing the form.

The applicant must write his/her name and the registration number on the reverse of the Demand Draft. Some basics for Indian companies

It's quite obvious that when you have large customer base, it's difficult to manage it. But the same large customer base is what feeds you and your employees. 'Customer first' shouldn't be just a punchline, cutomers should feel it. When you launch a service or product, the care should be taken to minimise the complaints and at least the commonsense errors from service/product should be removed. "We value our customer and we will look in to matter soon...." is not the proper way. And if you don't care about proper way or the customer satisfaction, at least you must care about your revenues and existence!

The recent airtel (many other service providers) document verification might have cost customers at least one corore (approximate) and that too just because of the miscommunication and wrong ways of administering the things.
They should improve!

GIT installation on ubuntu basics

GIT is a free & open source, distributed version control system and it is identified as the most fast version control system in comparison to the other VCS like SVN. Also git is distributed and so you can use it off-line also. 'Distributed' here turns out to be every development machine being a git repository of it's own. So you have to install git on every development machine.

I haven't used SVN or other system before so don't exactly know how they work but for git the basic things you do is:
Start a Project
initiate the git for it
write your code
add those files to git
Commit
Write comment for 'this' commit
and the changes are deposited on local/'your development machine'. Now you have to 'push' those changes to another repository i.e. another server in case you are doing it on multiple machines

Installation of git on Ubuntu (9.04):
It can be done through 'apt-get install git-core' but that installs the older version. The current version is 1.7.2.3. So download it and install as described below:

Steps:
1. Download git from http://kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-1.7.2.3.tar.gz
2. Unzip the above download
3. cd to unziped directory
4. do
sudo ./configure
Will probably happen successfully :)
5. then do
sudo makeThis should o/p the lines below :)

Using GIT:

1) Now create a project or go to your project directory Ex. mkdir newpro and CD newpro and write your file now or those might already be present if it's old project
2) do initiate the git for it by git init
3) add all the files from project to git i.e. by git add .
4) and now commit the changes or in new project case initial commit by git commit
you will be taken to a file where you can enter a comment so that you remember what was the reason for commit, like in this case we can say "Initial commit"
Then our git repository is perfectly ready.

Now you are free to do changes to your files and save them as we usually do.
Now add the changed files to git by
git add nameofchnagedfile
and then commit
git commit

To do it on different machines say m1 and m2, first we install git on both machines. Say m1 is central repository and initially our project is there, what we do is initiate git for that project (on m1) and get a clone of it as below (described here: http://danielmiessler.com/blog/using-git-to-maintain-your-website)

cd newpro
git init
git add .
git commit

and then come out of our directory i.e

cd ..
and then clone it
git clone newpro/ newpro.git

so the repository clone is ready on m1

now let's go to m2 and get the clone there and work on it and as you do changes push them to m1 and pull the recent code from the same. Haven't tried this yet, will post it times later.

The web 2.0 is not a different web, but the way things go here are totally different. It's driven bye the people, it's more inclusive and so more people coming in and asking for something new every day.
This people-driven-web - web 2.0 is surely going to revise itself and we will see a newer, revised, different web 2.0 in coming some years. One change I can predict is Change is the way Articles, Blogposts are displayed. Today they show articles and then the comments exactly below it. Study today says, people read comments to the news, article first and then decide on should I read the original article or not. But the newer version will have Comments first and then the original article. In other sense, it means the initial readers of the content will decide or derive the future hits/success of your content.

The another interesting thing we should focus on is kind-of content being created by the microblogging sites like Twitter. They generate on an average 32400000 sentences (tweets are considered as a sentence) in a day (12 hours), and not to surprise 80% of them are non grammatical wrt today's grammar. We surely need another grammar which isn't fully based on 'syntax' but on the 'information' the content carries. I write 'not on any syntax', because no one follows any kind of standard in doing intentional mistakes (to fit it in 140 chars) while writing :) .
Statistics might give us our new grammar, but I don't think it can full-fill the all the needs. Statistic is going to play a major role in analysing and deciding a loose structure of this new language or form of language; apart from that the traditional grammar is going to co-exist for literary work (not sure after reading some new authors :) ).
So let's be prepared for the change!

Bangalore: With the new trend being set up by IT firms to hire non-techies to do techies' work, it seems that working hard at engineering colleges for 3-4 years to enter this field is worthless. In the last few months, it is noticed that many of the Indian IT companies such as TCS, Wipro and Infosys are turning towards non engineering graduates for the same work that engineering graduates have been doing for long.

For instance, Nandini Sahay is currently working in one of the Indian IT firms as a Software Engineer after completing her BA degree in History and one year certificate course in computer programming. It might be a dream comes true for this village girl Nandini, whose parents feed their stomachs by earning from agriculture field in the remote area of Andhra Pradesh, but at the same time, these IT firms need to think of those millions of engineering graduates, who have worked hard for 3-4 years to enter this field, are sitting idle to get better opportunities. One of the many students, who are feeling the heat of this new trend, is Gaurav Jain, B.Tech/B.E. student at Malviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur. He said, "If it is possible to train one person in just six months or one year then why engineers are taught for four years?"

So the big question - will these hiring of non-techies affect the quality of work? Mahalakshmi Subramanium, QA/QC Manager, Genpact said, "I think yes. It will affect the quality. Normally an IT graduate undergoes 3-4 years of training to become a professional. If that education is given to a non-IT graduate in just one year or six months, it's obvious that they won't be taught everything due to which their basics won't be strong and they won't be able to perform as nicely as a properly trained IT graduate can do. Even with techies, project success rate is less than 25 percent. With non techies, they are intending to smash it to zero."

But all these firms who are hiring these non-techies believe that quality of the work will not be affected by hiring non-engineering graduates, as these non-techies are being hired for testing software applications and managing computer infrastructure, in order to do more with fewer staff and at lower wages than computer engineers.

It is believed that from nearly 10 percent of their current workforce, non-engineering graduates could account for nearly 20-25 percent of the staff at companies such as TCS, Wipro and HCL, over the next one to two years. The IT company like Cognizant already has almost 20 percent of its global workforce who are non-engineering graduates. Speaking on this issue, Amitava Roy, Chief People Officer, Symphony Services said, "Hiring non-techies might work for some of the IT companies, but as far as Symphony Services is concerned; our work requires the expertise and knowledge of technical engineers. Candidates from non engineering background do not fit into our framework of expertise required and hence the hiring model." Even Srini Rajam, Chairman and CEO, Ittiam Systems agrees with Roy and said, "It's not right way to build any company. One company gains more value by differentiation of knowledge come from competition."

Some of the experts feel that basically this step is being taken by companies to cut the costs and increase the employment across the country. Normally, an Indian IT firm pays Rs. 2-4 lakh per annum to an engineering graduate, but when they hire any non-engineering graduate, they just pay Rs.80,000 - Rs.1,50,000. Nandini has got the package of Rs.90,000 per annum. One of the officials of an IT major said, "It's not everything about cutting cost. In the last few years, skill mix has changed because of a fundamental shift in sourcing behaviour - customers sourcing a broader range of services, including BPO/KPO. So, we hire according to that need."

Now, it is to be seen that these IT firms understand the real value of an engineering graduate or keep hiring non-techies in near future also, as it is possible for only these IT biggies to train non-techies to do techies' work, not the smaller firms.

Two-stage Constraint Parsing for Indian Languages
Natural Language Processing deals with understanding and developing computational theories of human language. Such theories allow us to understand the structure of language and build computer software that can process language. For example, if a query in a human language can be processed (that is, analyzed and understood) by the machine, then it can try to find an answer from a given database or from a set of documents. A search engine of the future is likely to use such a technology.

Parsing gives the grammatical analysis of a given sentence. Here, we will describe 2-stage parsing in the Computational Paninian Grammar framework. The parser is a constraint solver, where constraints are expressed in the form of integer programming constraints. Research results regarding its performance would be presented, and compared with data driven parsing.

Semantic Multimedia Web
The vision of semantic web proposes an environment where the data and services on the web can be semantically interpreted and processed by machines to facilitate human consumption. In today's cyberspace, audio-visual artifacts compete with traditional text and data in their information content. Machine interpretation of multimedia data is therefore essential for realization of the semantic web vision. Semantic web technology relies on ontology as a tool for modeling an abstract view of the real world and contextual semantic analysis of documents. Ontology languages like Web Ontology Language (OWL) uses linguistic constructs for modeling the real-world and can be conveniently used for interpreting textual documents. An attempt to use ontology for interpreting multimedia contents is hindered by the semantic gap that exists between media features appearing in the documents and the linguistic structures representing the concepts in the ontology. We argue that the concepts have their roots in perceptual experience of human beings and the apparent disconnect between the conceptual and the perceptual worlds is rather artificial. The key to semantic processing of media data lays in harmonizing the seemingly isolated conceptual and the perceptual worlds. In this context, we propose a new ontology based approach for contextual semantic interpretation of multimedia data and services on the web. This ontology representation “Multimedia Web Ontology Language (MOWL)” is an extension of OWL and supports perceptual modeling and reasoning essential for semantic multimedia applications.

A real story ....A conversation between a Soldier and Software Enggr in Shatabdi Train .... .....An interesting and a must read !

Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man.. He was the Project Manager and still not entitled to air travel.
It was not the prestige he sought, he had tried to reason with the admin person, it was the savings in time.

He opened his case and took out the laptop, determined to put the time to some good use.

'Are you from the software industry sir,' the man beside him was staring appreciatively at the laptop.
Vivek glanced briefly and mumbled in affirmation, handling the laptop now with exaggerated care
and importance as if it were an expensive car.

'You people have brought so much advancement to the country, Sir. Today everything is getting computerized. '

'Thanks,' smiled Vivek, turning around to give the man a look. He always found it difficult to resist appreciation.

'You people always amaze me,' the man continued, 'You sit in an office and write something on a computer
and it does so many big things outside..'

Vivek smiled deprecatingly. Naiveness demanded reasoning not anger. 'It is not as simple as that my friend.
It is not just a question of writing a few lines. There is a lot of process that goes behind it.'

'It is complex, very complex.'

'It has to be. No wonder you people are so highly paid,' came the reply.

This was not turning out as Vivek had thought. A hint of belligerence crept into his so far affable, persuasive tone. ' Everyone just sees the money. No one sees the amount of hard work we have to put in. .

'Let me give you an example. Take this train. The entire railway reservation system is computerized.
You can book a train ticket between any two stations from any of the hundreds of computerized booking
centres across the country.
Thousands of transactions accessing a single database, at a time concurrently; data integrity, locking, data security.
Do you understand the complexity in designing and coding such a system?'
The man was awestuck; quite like a child at a planetarium.

'You design and code such things.'

'I used to,' Vivek paused for effect, 'but now I am the Project Manager.'

'Oh!' sighed the man, as if the storm had passed over,
'so your life is easy now.'

This was like the last straw for Vivek. He retorted, 'Oh come on, does life ever get easy as you go up the ladder.
Responsibility only brings more work.
Design and coding! That is the easier part. Now I do not do it, but I am responsible for it and believe me,
that is far more stressful. My job is to get the work done in time and with the highest quality.
To tell you about the pressures, there is the customer at one end, always changing his requirements,
the user at the other, wanting something else, and your boss, always expecting you to have finished it yesterday.'

'My friend,' he concluded triumphantly, 'you don't know what it is to be in the Line of Fire'.
The man sat back in his chair, his eyes closed as if in realization. When he spoke after sometime, it was with
a calm certainty that surprised Vivek.

'I know sir,...... I know what it is to be in the Line of Fire........ '
He was staring blankly, as if no passenger, no train existed, just a vast expanse of time.
'There were 30 of us when we were ordered to capture Point 4875 in the cover of the night.
The enemy was firing from the top.
There was no knowing where the next bullet was going to come from and for whom.
In the morning when we finally hoisted the tricolour at the top only 4 of us were alive.'
'You are a...?'
'I am SubedarSushant from the 13 J&K Rifles on duty at Peak 4875 inKargil. They tell me I have completed
my term and can opt for a soft assignment.
But, tell me sir, can one give up duty just because it makes life easier.
On the dawn of that capture, one of my colleagues lay injured in the snow, open to enemy fire while
we were hiding behind a bunker.
It was my job to go and fetch that soldier to safety.
But my captain sahib refused me permission and went ahead himself..
He said that the first pledge he had taken as a Gentleman Cadet was to put the safety and welfare of
the nation foremost followed by the safety and welfare of the men he commanded...
....his own personal safety came last, always and every time.'

'He was killed as he shielded and brought that injured soldier into the bunker. Every morning thereafter,
as we stood guard, I could see him taking all those bullets, which were actually meant for me.
I know sir....I know, what it is to be in the Line of Fire.'

Vivek looked at him in disbelief not sure of how to respond. Abruptly, he switched off the laptop.
It seemed trivial, even insulting to edit a Word document in the presence of a man for whom
valour and duty was a daily part of life; valour and sense of duty which he had so far attributed only to epical heroes. The train slowed down as it pulled into the station, and Subedar Sushant picked up his bags to alight.

'It was nice meeting you sir.'

Vivek fumbled with the handshake.
This hand... had climbed mountains, pressed the trigger, and hoisted the tricolour.
Suddenly, as if by impulse, he stood up at attention and his right hand went up in an impromptu salute.
It was the least he felt he could do for the country.

PS: The incident he narrated during the capture of Peak 4875 is a true-life incident during the Kargil war.
Capt. Batra sacrificed his life while trying to save one of the men he commanded, as victory was within sight.
For this and various other acts of bravery, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra,
the nation's highest military award.

Live humbly, there are great people around us, let us learn!

It's the decade of localization and software is never an exception to it. In this Flat world, information-flow is independent of geography; and the next flattening phenomenon is information-flow independent of languages. I correct myself, it's not 'next', it has been happening here around me and you since last some years. See the regional language content on web and see the user base of Internet spreading to common masses. With this spread has come many opportunities and challenges for the computer industry; the challenge of communication gap is the major factor which will decide how efficiently we grabt hose opportunities and convert them to win-win situation for ourselves and our customers. Research labs around the globe are working towards solving all these challenges. India is not behind in it. organizations like CDAC, IITs,IIITs and like are working on language technology since last decade itself. Now there are many private players into this and most of them are start-ups, which is encouraging scenario for the language technology future in India. Per second billing by all mobile operators

In a move that could potentially reduce call charges, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is planning to make the one-second pulse a mandatory tariff option for all operators.

The move will benefit consumers because it will reduce the 'wastage' per call, which some telecom companies put at about 18 percent, reports PTI. Currently, most telecom companies fix the minimum pulse rate at 60 seconds. "We may ask all operators to consider the per-second pulse as a mandatory tariff option along with their other tariff plans," said TRAI Chairman J.S. Sarma.

Analysts say that the change would make tariffs more transparent since consumers will pay only for as many seconds as they use. "On average, consumers do not use 15 to 20 seconds of a call but pay for it because of the one-minute pulse rate. A per-second pulse would mean they would save," said Romal Shetty, Telecom Analyst with consultancy firm KPMG.

Sarma said TRAI will soon come out with a consultation paper on the subject. "Even in the per-second tariff plan, operators must ensure that all the riders and caveats are clearly brought out," Sarma added. Some telecom companies have already launched the one-second pulse rate plan. In Tata Docomo's case, for instance, the move has helped the company build a subscriber base of around seven million since it launched the mobile services three months ago.

Last week, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) launched the one paise per second pulse (for local calls) and two paise per second pulse (for national long-distance calls) in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. Telecom operators, especially incumbents, may see average revenue per user (ARPU) and revenues falling as a result of this new stipulation.

Now writing in Hindi is more easy, now we don't need to learn that complex Hindi keyboard; just spell the Hindi word in roman script [English; ex. 'bharat'] and there you get the word in Devnagari [Hindi; 'भारत'].
CDAC Mumbai has developed a transliteration tool called Xlit, which transliterates [converts] betwen English and Indian Language[Hindi, marathi, tamil, kanada, etc.].

You can also use the same system for writng in Hindi in OpenOffice [A free OpenSource office suite:get it here: http://www.openoffice.org/ ], using an extension called XlitHindi. To download this please visit: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/xlithindi .

Free software saves Kerala schools Rs.11 Crore

By opting for the free and open software platform (FOSS) for the state-sponsored IT@School project, Kerala's General Education Department has saved Rs.11 crore.

The project's Executive Director K. Anvar Sadath said if proprietary software were used in the 11,065 laptops and computers to be supplied in schools, a minimum of Rs.11 crore would have been spent in procurement of software.

"This deployment, considered to be the largest ever, will start from tomorrow (Friday) and will include 8,385 computers, 9,607 UPS, 2,680 laptops, 1,871 multimedia projectors, 2,222 laser printers, 1,076 dot matrix printers and 1,759 scanners to be made available to schools," said Sadath.

This scheme is already running in 1,016 government schools and is now being extended to 3,055. At present it covers classes 8 to 12.

"The advantage of using free software is not only cost reduction, there are philosophical reasons behind this including sharing of knowledge. I think this is a model that other states can follow," said state Minister of Education M.A. Baby.

His Is The Team India Needs!

These are the days of election fever and every politician is suffering from it. Many have started showing the symptoms of the high fever, you might have observed some ads flooding the web saying “XYZ for PM”. And I feel sad for it, because this thing once again proves that we Indians always try to blindly copy things from west or make something which is somehow an Indian version of an American thing.

I strongly think that Indian people feel proud in “Importing Ideals”! Same disease has attacked our leader who is just dying to be PM [sorry to say this but it’s what seems!].

Many politicians in India got impressed with campaign of the Obama for the presidential elections in America. I don’t know are these some politicians are impressed with what he does and what he speaks. I think this leader of ours don’t know India is not a presidential democracy and India doesn’t need only a good PM but a complete perfect team of visionary leaders under a visionary-strong PM. He thought its really simple to replace some words from “OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT” and put it as “XYZ FOR PRIME MINISTER”! I think this copying business must stop and this thing has to be initiated by the Leader. This statement itself denies capability of the XYZ as PM (as leader)! And say him don’t project yourself, project the team you have! Hope he gets it.

In situation like this India needs a visionary who can take nation to another level in such economic scenario, India needs team of the leaders who can dream big for nation and make it true through their efforts. It needs a leader who knows who can fit where, India needs a leader who can take the strong decisions on security front, who can keep the head high while talking to the president of America. India needs a leader who can warn neighbors and if required show them the army forces.

Let’s start analyzing the people we have, with such capabilities and with a great team of possible ministers to do that perfectly. We have in the line self claimed would be PM Mayawati Ji, aggressively approaching Advani Ji and Narendra Modi, willing/unwilling [I don’t know exactly, I think even he don’t know it exactly] to be PM Dr. Manmohan Ji, LaLu Ji and Sharadchandra Pawar.

You believe or not, but this is the set from which you are to get the solution for the PM.

Let’s see who has what.

Maywati Ji: I appeal citizen of India please don’t select such leader, otherwise our coming generations will curse us every day. Do you think such leader can think of the economical growth? What India needs is to come out from this recession, bring more job opportunities to nation, have the sustained and inclusive growth of nation. She is not the person who can do that.[How can she do that if she does spend all her time in spending money (which is public property) on mounting her statues ] She claims the votes in the name of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, has she ever followed this leader. The greatest defeat of the Ambedkar’s thinking is done by people like her who still claim to be leaders of “Dalit Movement”. I don’t think it’s a movement that Ambedkar wanted for the Dalits to follow. She must have sanyas from politics and think over it is she doing what Ambedkar wanted!

Advani Ji and Narendra Modi Ji: NO FUNDAMENTALIST SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO RULE THIS SECULAR NATION. [Though they show that they are not fundamentalist, THEY ARE!] I will not waste my time in describing them how they can’t do what nation needs now. India knows it very well. We have seen the Naked and Hungry children when these people were shouting “Shining India-Shining India” and Later on we saw burning India! So we are wise to decide on it!

Manmohan Singh Ji: He is great as Finance Minister and as an Administrator. But he is soft, sufficiently kind and insufficiently strong for the post of PM [I am not pointing his incapability, he can give best of him at the Finance Minister post] He is best as the FM, he can be part of next team!

LaLu Ji: I know some will point out what he did for railways, for them I will like to force you remember what he did with Bihar and abChara.

Sharad Pawar: At this point you might have got an idea of Whose team [not whom] India needs. This is the leader who can manage all those best people in whom India needs as Leaders. I see he is the visionary for the Prime Minister of India post!

[He don’t know me, I am not a member of any political party! I am just a common man who is searching for a person whom I can recruit as leader of my nation!]

He is good at interpersonal relations which you might have guessed from the role he played in the Confidence motion happened because of the nuclear deal last time. He has friends in every field like business, literature, academia and sports (J). He is strong enough, he is kind enough, he is perfect for the post! His experience from the Agricultural ministry and his knowledge about the rural India (Which I think none of the above put contestants have as much as him) will definitely help in strengthening our domestic market concern, inclusive growth. His international identity [Refer cricket, Bill Gates visit to the Baramati (his constituency) and many other examples of his international identity (pohach)] will definitely take us a step higher in the international scenario as a nation and a culture. He is an entrepreneur too [You want a leader as an entrepreneur like Obama, see we have it! (For those who still demand chocolate like America (J!)] He is passionate about work; he works for 15 plus hours a day [for the people of nation]. He is one of the very few leaders who knows more than their secretaries (IAS officers) for their department. He is the one who has seen Indian politics from the grass root level. I remember of a story I read about him in which he used to visit the government offices daily on bicycle for sanctioning scholarships of the students whom he personally didn’t know, can any one do this without any passion in belly for the social cause? He is the one who brought people from every strata of society to the parliament, to the state assembly. I remember he was one who supported naming of the “Marathwada University” as the “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University”.

He is true visionary leader with innovation in brain, compassion in heart and passion in belly! No doubt he can take India to a next step on Social and Economic front!

With this I appeal all you reading this blog post [random(less) thoughts] to think seriously about the future of nation, for that think of the right candidate to do that well. I specially request Sonia Gandhi to think beyond politics and parties to put him forward as Leader of Nation. [Or I request you people to create a situation where she has to do this] Now you know what you have to do!

" आशी एक जोरदार आरोळी ठोकली तर तिथे पुरलेले मुडदे देखील " जय !!" म्हणून साद देतील , इतके प्रचंड उपकार शिवाजी महाराजानी मराठी माणसावर , या महाराष्ट्रावर केलेत. जिवंत माणसे तर सोडा पण दगड माती यात देखील शिवरायणी जीव घातला होता , म्हणून तर मुकी जनावर देखील तेव्हा " माझा महाराष्ट्र " आस स्वभमानाने मनात होती. पण आज त्याच महाराष्ट्राच काय झाल आहे ?

भाषेचा , राज्याचा आपल्या इतिहासाचा देखील आभिमान आज कोणात दिसत नाही. आम्ही " शांति - सर्वा धर्म समभाव " आड लपत आपले कर्तव्य टाळत आहेत. शांति - सर्वाधर्म समभाव याच्या नवा खाली आपला आभिमान विसरने , आपल्या संस्कृती वर होणारा परकीय घात पाहत थंड राहणे म्हणजे भ्याड पनच आहे. !!. हे आस चालू आहे म्हणूनच आजपावतो परमवीर, धर्मवीर संभाजी देखील वाईट रंगवला गेला आणि आम्ही मात्र शांत राहिलो. वयाच्या 16 वर्षी शंभू ने "बुधभूषण" सारखा राजकारण, युध नीती यावर संस्कृत ग्रंथ लिहाला हे कोणाला माहीत होते ? आज शंभू राजे आडकले , उद्या कोण आसेल सांगता येणार नाही.

आज कित्तेक शाळा , शासकीय कार्यालया मधे शिव जयंती साजरी होत नाही. (( ताज उदाहरण , एस. जी. जी. एस. नांदेड मधे मागच्या 5 वर्षा पासून चालू असलेला शिव- जन्मोस्तव या वर्षी रोखला जातोय. हे उदाहरण माझ्या लेखात नव्हते. )) ही कशाची सुरूवात म्हणायची ? आपण याला बंधन घालायला हवे की नाही ?

शिवरायंच्या या महाराष्ट्रात महाराष्ट्राच संपवायला आलेल्या ओरंगजेबाच नाव आम्ही एका शहराला दिल आणि आजही तेच बोम्बल्त फिरतो. फक्त एक " सामना " आणि काही शिव प्रेमी त्याला " संभाजीनगर" म्हणतात. आसो स्वाभिमान हा जन्म जात आसवा लागतो , बळच कोम्बता येत नाही. पण निदान मी तरी संभाजीनगरच म्हणणार .

शिव जयंती च्या तारखाचा दुसरा एक वाद. बहुदा ना सुटणारा. पण मला वाटते जे झाले ते झाले , दोन तर दोन. पण त्या दोन्ही दिवसी मराठी माणूस एक्जुटच आसवा. दोन्ही दिवसी जयंती उत्साहाताच होणार.
